Intended audience: clinical services coord - csc

An expedited allocation is a provisional list of eligible organ recipients. It can be run under the following circumstances, to expedite the offer and acceptance process so organ recovery can begin:

  • Before all of the donor information (such as clinical information, HLA typing or serology results) is collected.

  • If the Canadian Transplant Registry (CTR) is unavailable, meaning the following recipients cannot be included in the allocation recommendation:

    • IPOS Kidney recipients.

    • High Status heart recipients.

    • High Status liver recipients.

Organ acceptance based on incomplete donor and CTR information is provisional.

  • When missing information becomes available, a the allocation can be discontinued and re-run, which creates a different allocation recommendation list.

    • Previously accepted offers must be withdrawn by a CSC if the recipient is found to be not suitable, based on the new information.

  • An expedited organ might be delivered to a transplant program but cannot be used for the intended recipient.
