A virtual crossmatch compares the HLA typing for a recipient and selected donor, and determines whether the donor’s genetic makeup is likely to cause an adverse response in the recipient’s immune system if an organ is transplanted. This determination is based on known antibodies present in the recipient that would recognize features of the donor’s cells as a foreign body and attack them

A Specified VXM is a virtual crossmatch performed between HLA data for a selected recipient and a selected donor.

Performing a Specified VXM

A CSC can perform a Specified VXM:

  1. Go to a recipient profile, then select HLA Information > Virtual Crossmatch on the sidebar.

  2. Select the Perform Specified VXM button.

  3. The system prompts you to enter the TGLN ID number for the decease or living donor to whom you are trying to compare the recipient.

  4. Enter the donor’s TGLN ID number.

  5. Select the Confirm button.

The system runs a virtual crossmatch for the recipient and selected donor.

The VXM results are visible in the VXM History section of the recipient’s profile.
