The final allocation algorithm steps are to exclude (or filter out) recipients that meet certain conditions.

Donor acceptability rules

Recipients (with their transplant team’s advice) may decide to specify donor acceptability criteria: donor attributes that the recipient cannot accept.

The system automatically excludes recipients if the donor falls outside any one of the specified criteria.

Donor acceptability criteria such as blood type and HCV are also used in the early steps in the allocation algorithm sequence when selecting potential recipients for a donated organ.

Transplant program filter rules

Transplant programs set policies to exclude their recipients from allocation recommendations if the donor meets certain conditions (for example, exclude if donor is over/under a certain age). Ontario’s transplant programs have different exclusion practices specific to each organ type.

The exclusion is noted on the allocation recommendation listing.

If required, you can override transplant program exclusion filters when you run an allocation recommendation.
