How recipient death affects organ transplant journeys
Intended audience: recipient coordinator transplant program admin clinical services coord-csc
When an organ transplant recipient dies, information about their death is recorded in the system. This triggers various automated actions, depending on the phase of their journey(s) the recipient was in.
Journey Phase | Next Steps |
---|---|
Referral | The system prompts the Recipient Coordinator to update the referral decision with a final decision. |
Assessment | The system prompts the Recipient Coordinator to:
|
Waitlist | The system automatically removes the recipient from the waitlists for all transplant journeys, with a reason of Patient Death. If a journey is currently on Medical Hold, Serum Hold, or Suspension, the hold or suspension is end-dated with the waitlist removal date. The recipient’s status is updated on the Canadian Transplant Registry (CTR) as Recipient Deceased. |
Post-Transplant | The system prompts the Recipient Coordinator to create a follow-up record to log the recipient’s last known post-transplant status.
