Intended audience: recipient coordinator transplant program admin

Once a recipient has been added to an organ waitlist, you may update the recipient’s medical status to reflect a change in their medical condition. This change can impact the recipient’s priority on organ allocations.

If the recipient currently has a medical status of 0 - Temporarily on hold, you must remove the recipient’s medical hold before entering a new medical status.

If the organ is clustered, you must change the recipient’s medical status for each organ in the cluster separately.

Changing a recipient’s medical status

  1. Go to the recipient’s profile, then select Organ > Waitlist on the sidebar for the organ you want to update.

Example - Waitlist history and medical status section

    • A table at the top of this section presents historical medical statuses and waitlist status changes. The value in the Type column indicates the nature of the change.

  2. Select the most recent medical status row from the waitlist history table (look for Medical Status in the Type column).

  3. Select a new Medical Status from the dropdown.

    • If the new medical status is 0 - Temporarily on hold, enter the relevant medical hold information. See Manage a medical hold.

  4. Select the Save Medical Status button.

The system adds the newly selected medical status to the waitlist history table and end-dates the previous medical status row.
